    Elderly Florida man allegedly tried to burn his ex to death when she dumped him after 42 years together

    BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. (TCN) -- An 84-year-old man has been charged in connection with an alleged attack on a woman who broke up with him after four decades together.On July 3, Franklin Davis and his ex-girlfriend, whose name has not been released, got into an argument in the parking lot of a convenience store, CBS News reports. The two had reportedly been together for 42 years. The New York Post reports the victim had recently ended their relationship. Surveillance footage reviewed by the Broward County Sheriff’s Department allegedly showed Davis pouring gasoline onto a car’s dashboard before setting it alight while his ex-girlfriend was inside. Davis was intoxicated at the time, according to deputies, WPLG reports.The victim escaped and later told deputies she believed Davis wanted to “burn her up inside the car.” She sustained third-degree burns to her leg and Davis sustained burns to the face and hands, according to CBS. Both were taken to the hospital for treatment.Davis was charged with premeditated attempted murder; arson causing bodily harm; and criminal contempt, solicitation, and conspiracy to commit a capital felony, per CBS News.
