    Florida man allegedly opened fire during pool party and killed girlfriend, 6-year-old son, family dog

    SARASOTA, Fla. (TCN) -- A 34-year-old man is being held without bond after police say he fatally shot his girlfriend, 6-year-old son, and family dog.On May 23, deputies with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home after receiving a report of a shooting. Inside the home, deputies found the bodies of Allie Novickis, 34, and Phoenix Novickis, 6. The family’s dog had also been shot and was transferred to an emergency veterinarian and pronounced dead. According to an arrest affidavit obtained by Law & Crime, the dog was a husky. At a press conference, a representative for the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office said the fatal shooting occurred at Nicholas Novickis’ mother’s house. The family had reportedly gone to her home for the day to swim in her pool, and she was awakened by the sound of glass breaking, WFLA reports. According to the sheriff’s office, Novickis’ mother alleged she saw her son shoot Phoenix Novickis in the head with a pump-action shotgun as he swam in the pool. She then dialed 911 and alleged that while she was on the phone with dispatchers, he shot the family’s dog and then dropped the gun. Nicholas Novickis’ mother said she was able to get the gun from him, and alleged that she saw Allie Novickis dead inside the home. The name of Nicholas Novickis’ mother has not been released.Nicholas Novickis was found in the kitchen and taken into custody without incident, according to the sheriff’s office. He was charged with two counts of second-degree murder and one count of animal cruelty.According to WFLA, during his first interview with detectives, Nicholas Novickis allegedly expressed regret and said that the fatal shootings were “f---d up.”According to WFLA, Nicholas and Allie Novickis shared a last name but it has not been confirmed if they were officially married.WFLA reports there were no arguments leading up to the fatal shootings and that Nicholas Novickis has no criminal history.
