MILWAUKEE (TCN) -- A 31-year-old woman has been charged with first-degree reckless homicide and chronic child neglect after her 3-month-old baby died from a fentanyl overdose.According to a criminal complaint obtained by WISN, Tashae Goodman dialed 911 on March 22 and allegedly said she had slept on her baby, who was not breathing. First responders attempted lifesaving measures, but the baby, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead. An investigation found the baby did not have any medical conditions and was fed a diet of infant formula every three to four hours. Goodman alleged that before she made the call, her baby had become wedged in between the couch cushions and was bleeding from the nose and head. During the investigation, the bottle used during the baby’s last feeding was taken by authorities to be tested.Calls between Goodman and the child’s father, who was in jail, showed that Goodman allegedly told him the baby had died, and then in a call an hour later, she allegedly asked if she should go to detox, according to the complaint.WISN reports an autopsy found no signs of illness, injury, or trauma, so a toxicology report was ordered. The toxicology report, released April 30, found that the baby’s bottle contained traces of fentanyl and there was morphine and fentanyl in the child’s bloodstream. In an interview with authorities on May 15, Goodman alleged that the drugs in the baby’s system were due to her drug use during pregnancy and that the residue in the bottle was because she did not clean her house.Goodman’s 10-year-old son was interviewed, and he alleged that Goodman was often under the influence of drugs; she was given Narcan on May 12 when she allegedly overdosed and was late to pick him up from school, per WISN.Us Magazine reports Goodman was arrested and charged on May 17 and is being held on $250,000 cash bond. According to WDJT, her preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 28.MORE: Calif. woman gets 6 years for child’s fatal fentanyl overdose — True Crime NewsN.Y. day care owners sentenced to 25 years for toddler’s fatal fentanyl overdose — True Crime NewsPa. parents arrested after child dies from exposure to fentanyl they called ‘daddy’s medicine’ — True Crime NewsCalifornia parents convicted of murder after their toddler dies of fentanyl poisoning — True Crime News
