The Stakes of Trump’s Media Ban; Why the U.S. Hasn’t Helped Saudi Arabia With the Houthis - Sep. 21

Media organizations MS NOW, CNN and Politico are suing the Trump administration after some of their reporters were banned from the White House, arguing the president is violating their First Amendment rights. Today, the White House press TV pool, including NBC News, is suspending pooled coverage of President Donald Trump in response. Kelly O’Donnell, NBC News chief justice and national affairs correspondent, explains whether the ban will stand and how it will affect coverage heading into the U.N. General Assembly. Then, a U.S. official tells NBC News that Trump considered striking the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen, after Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman asked him for help fighting, before deciding to hold off for now. NBC News chief international correspondent Keir Simmons breaks down why the U.S. is not assisting one of its key Middle Eastern allies and what the implications could be for the war with Iran. Plus, we’re two weeks into the NFL season and there have already been some high-profile injuries, unexpected blowouts and nail-biting finishes. NBC News sports reporter Andrew Greif tackles the biggest surprises of the season so far. Here’s the Scoop from NBC News is the daily news fix you need — quick, clear, and conversational.
